Read Time: 5 Minutes

Eating watermelon has many nutritional benefits. In the article, Effects of Fresh Watermelon Consumption on the Acute Satiety Response and Cardiometabolic Risk Factors in Overweight and Obese Adults, it evaluated the effects of fresh watermelon consumption on the glucose and insulin response, and body weight  in overweight and obese adults (Lum et al., 2019).

There are five good  reasons to eat watermelon. The first reason mentioned in the article to eat watermelon is because in a study it showed that reductions in body weight, body mass index (BMI), and blood pressure can be achieved through daily consumption of watermelon (Lum et al., 2019).

A second reason to eat watermelon is because it "is  rich in lycopene, a carotenoid, that may provide protection against cancer and cardiovascular disease" (Lum et al., 2019).

(Lum et al., 2019) mentions a third reason to eat watermelon  which is based on previous studies which indicated that  " watermelon consumption has been associated with reduced weight gain and fat mass in some animals.

The fourth reason to eat watermelon that was explained in the article is that " in previous studies, when watermelon was eaten by participants, it produced smaller increases in blood glucose and insulin  compared with processed foods" (Lum et al., 2019).

The fifth reason to eat watermelon, pointed out in the article, is that "the results from a study suggest that fresh watermelon, when consumed in place of conventional refined carbohydrate snacks, may help reduce appetite and assist with weight management while reducing cardiovascular risk factors" (Lum et al., 2019).
