A Business Spotlight Interview with the Founder of The A. Haqq Islam Media Group

I had a wonderful opportunity to interview the founder of The A. Haqq Islam Media Group. In this business spotlight interview,  he shared with me how he was tired of the media constantly portraying Muslims as terrorists, especially since the community is actually full of brilliant scientists, tech experts, and creatives. As a result, he created his podcast, The Oasis with A. Haqq Islam, to tell their diverse stories.

Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Please, would you tell our readers about yourself?

Abdul Haqq Islam: I am Abdul Haqq Islam. I was named by The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. I own a media company, The A. Haqq Islam Media Group. Our goal is to produce podcasts, visual content, documentaries, films and events highlighting the Muslim experience.

Previously, I owned a record label, UNIVERSITY RECORDS, which housed the artists Pure Soul, Dru Hill, Mya, and Sisqo. I started this company while in graduate school at Howard University. 
 


I am a graduate of Howard University, located in WDC, and also attended graduate school in International Relations at Howard University. I am from NYC. I have three children. I have never been married.
 

Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Share with us the story behind the creation of The Oasis with A. Haqq Islam Podcast: the inspiration for starting, history, mission, and  purpose.
 

Abdul Haqq Islam: I started The Oasis with A. Haqq Islam because I was tired of always seeing Muslims portrayed on screen as terrorists. We are a richly diverse community made up of scientists, masters of technology, artists, athletes, and so much more. I want to highlight our diversity and tell our stories. We film The Oasis with A. Haqq Islam in NYC, NY, and Doha, Qatar.
  


Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Tell us about one of your guest of The Oasis podcast who had the biggest influence on your life in such a way that you are a different person since talking to them.

Abdul Haqq Islam: I have had great guests, and  each has given me a fraction of themselves, which has aided in my growth and development as a Black man, Muslim, and human being.
