I am incredibly grateful to welcome back one of my favorite business owners for another interview. About two years ago, I had the pleasure of featuring Khadijah Muhammad, the talent behind Djah Bakes, who specialize in handcrafted, organic desserts in a business spotlight interview. Today, she is returning to share the inspiring story behind her children's book, Dijah Bakes Her First Cake! It is the perfect new addition to your child's summer reading list, and I am so excited for you all to hear about it.
Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Please, would you tell our readers about yourself?
Khadijah Muhammad: Peace! My name is Khadijah Muhammad. I am an organic baker who ships nationwide, a baking instructor, and author of “Dijah Bakes Her First Cake!”
Dr. Nadine Muhammad: What is your motivation for writing your children's book, Dijah Bakes Her First Cake!
Khadijah Muhammad: I’ve always had a deep love for our youth. No matter what career goal I wanted in life it always included children. When I started baking I wanted to figure out a way to tie it into helping the youth. I wanted to have a bakery that employs youth but knew I wanted to impact now and not wait until I got a bakery to do so. I remembered characters I loved growing up. I always enjoyed characters like strawberry shortcake, hello kitty, Minnie Mouse, Bratz, etc. So I wanted to create my character Dijah.
Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Would you tell us what your book is about?
Khadijah Muhammad: The book is about Dijah learning how to bake a cake with her mom. They bake together and have it ready for her Dad once he comes home. The story was inspired by my first experience learning how to bake. Although I was around the age of 18 I made my character a younger version of myself because I truly believe in our youth learning skills while they're young to help them find their purpose.
Dr. Nadine Muhammad: What are the benefits that readers will obtain from reading your book, and how will their lives be transformed?

Khadijah Muhammad: Readers will be inspired to bake. They will learn that baking requires a recipe and some ingredients that goes into baking a cake. They will be inspired to bond with their mothers in the kitchen and beyond. They will learn that learning a skill could be a way to their dreams.
