In Islam we are promised friendships in all walks of life. I am so grateful to God for him allowing me to meet so many gifted and talented sisters all over the Nation of Islam, like Fatimah Muhammad. She is the founder of a mission-driven media and publishing company, At My Sister’s House, LLC, dedicated to the healing, empowerment, and elevation of Black women and girls. She is back on our platform in this author spotlight to share with us her inspiring story behind two journals for girls, which are perfect gifts for girls ages 10-17. The titles are My Crown, My Story and Becoming My Own Light.
Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Please, would you tell our readers about yourself?
Fatimah Muhammad: My name is Fatimah Muhammad, as the founder of At My Sister’s House, LLC, I lead a mission-driven media and publishing company dedicated to the healing, empowerment, and elevation of Black women and girls. Built on faith, cultural truth, and purpose, our work centers the voices, stories, and needs of women who are often unseen and underserved.
Through our publishing arm, we produce books, guided journals, affirmation coloring books, and curricula that promote spiritual growth, identity development, and emotional wellness. As an independent press, we empower authors, especially Black women to own their narratives and bring culturally rooted messages to life.
On the media side, At My Sister’s House produces the talk show-style podcast of the same name, along with workshops, digital content, and community storytelling experiences. Every platform we create is designed to inform, uplift, and activate transformation.
At My Sister’s House isn’t just a company, but it’s a cultural refuge and an empowerment engine. We exist to pour into women and girls with the intention to heal, build, and rise.
Dr. Nadine Muhammad: What is your motivation for creating your book/journal projects: My Crown, My Story and Becoming My Own Light?
Fatimah Muhammad: My motivation comes from the young girls I see every day—quietly navigating a world that doesn’t always see their worth. I wanted to create journals that allow our girls to express their thoughts, feel their feelings, and remember who they are. These journals were created with love and intention, so that every girl who picks one up can begin to see herself more clearly.
Because when a girl is secure in her identity, her voice, and her spirit, she becomes a woman who walks in confidence and wholeness. These journals are the beginning of that journey.
Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Would you tell us the details of what your journals are about?
Fatimah Muhammad: Yes, absolutely.
My Crown, My Story is for girls ages 10–13. It’s a gentle, beautiful space for them to start building confidence, self-love, and gratitude. The journal includes 21 days of prompts, affirmations, quotes from Black women they can look up to, and even coloring pages to allow creativity and reflection. It helps young girls begin to speak life into themselves.

Becoming My Own Light is for girls ages 14–17. It goes deeper into identity, purpose, and emotional wellness. This journal supports teen girls as they learn to navigate life with more intention. It includes daily reflections, writing prompts, self-care check-ins, and quotes from powerful Black women like Michelle Obama, Maya Angelou, and Serena Williams.
Each book meets girls where they are and helps them grow from the inside out.

Dr. Nadine Muhammad: What are the benefits that readers will obtain from your journals, and how will their lives be transformed?
Fatimah Muhammad: These journals offer more than just writing prompts; they offer permission:
To feel.
To be seen.
To take up space.
To heal.
To feel.
To be seen.
To take up space.
To heal.
Readers will begin to:
-
Build their voice and confidence
-
Practice daily gratitude and reflection
-
Embrace their value, beauty, and uniqueness
-
Develop emotional awareness and language
-
Connect with the stories and power of Black women before them
The transformation is internal, but it ripples outward. A girl who knows her worth, who has been given space to heal and believe in herself, that girl becomes a woman who leads, who nurtures, and who rises. That’s what these journals are about. Not just writing, but becoming.
Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Fatimah, your story is so beautiful and inspiring! Thank you for all that you are doing for our women and girls and for taking time out of your busy schedule for this author spotlight interview.
