Reading Time: 10 Minutes
By the grace of God, I had the opportunity to interview Kadara Muhammad. She shared with me the inspiring story behind her notebook project. She states that Mosque Notes: A Reflection of Wisdom Notebook will help the user to grasp and retain the information being transcribed, and also by reflecting on and recording Allah’s (God's) Wisdom, users are more likely to internalize it and allow it to guide their daily lives.
Nadine Muhammad: Please, would you tell our readers about yourself?
Kadara Muhammad: As Salaam Alaikum! I am Kadara Muhammad, a proud citizen of the Nation of Islam! I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from The Math and Science Magnet program at Benjamin Elijah Mays High School in 1993, I left Atlanta to attend the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. It was here that I met and eventually married my beloved husband of 28 years, Jason Muhammad. Before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Health & Society (1997), I accepted the Teachings of The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, as taught to us by The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan- a decision that has shaped every aspect of my life since. My husband and I have been blessed with six brilliant and beautiful children -- Ayinde, Nzinga, Naimah, Imani, Isaiah, and Azizah-- whom we have homeschooled from the cradle. As a wife, mother, and educator, I strive daily to live and work in service to our faith and the MIGHTY MISSION of our Nation! Over the years, I have served as a homeschooling counselor for homeschooling families within and outside the Nation of Islam. I have worked as a Staple Goods Project coordinator for our Nation’s Ministry of Agriculture; as well as an instructor for our MGT Classes. My most rewarding work (aside from teaching my own children) has been teaching online English classes for Muhammad University of Islam in New York City. I currently serve as their Reading and Writing Challenge Coordinator, where I am blessed to inspire students to be critical readers and thinkers; and to develop their own voices through writing. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, sewing, dancing, reading, watching documentaries, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Nadine Muhammad: What was your motivation for creating Mosque Notes: A Reflection of Wisdom Notebook?
Kadara Muhammad: My motivation for creating Mosque Notes: A Reflection of Wisdom Notebook was essentially, our N.O.I lifestyle! In Islam, and more specifically, those in the Nation of Islam, we are taught to be avid consumers of truth. From Sunday and Wednesday lectures to Friday night study circles (including our respective men and women’s training classes), the believers in the Nation of Islam are constantly involved in the STUDY of The Knowledge of God! And as one who takes copious notes at every meeting, lecture, and class, I have found many of my notes in various areas around the house, on loose leaf paper, in different subject notebooks that I’d forgotten about; even on the inside of a manilla folder! (SMH/LOL) And in all seriousness, this has always bothered me. It made me feel completely disorganized, and even somewhat disrespectful to Allah’s (SWT) Words. And so, this notebook, in my humble opinion, was a great solution to these problems and is such a unique space for Muslims, worldwide, to keep track of their spiritual notes.
Nadine Muhammad: Would you tell us the details of what your notebook is about?
Kadara Muhammad: Mosque Notes: A Reflection of Wisdom Notebook is an original and uniquely designed white notebook with bold black text and an image of a star and crescent with the Arabic inscription for “Allah” -- a meaningful design by my husband and me. It’s available in two sizes: 6x9 or 8.5x11, and comes in your choice of either hardcover or paperback. This notebook has been thoughtfully designed with the Muslim notetaker in mind. It opens up with an iyat or verse from the Holy Qur’an that beautifully expresses the infinite wisdom of Allah. Followed by that, is a special letter from me to the user (whom I affectionately call “Beloved Notetaker”) sharing my inspiration for the creation of this notebook, and more importantly, my gratitude for their support. Throughout the remainder of the book each note-taking section begins with an introduction page where the user can write the title or subject of the keynote address, video tape, lecture or lesson being studied or heard. This page also includes a designated area for scriptural references, key points, and personal reflections the note-taker may want to record throughout their study. Following that are several lined pages for extended note-taking. Near the end of the notebook, a friendly reminder message to re-order is found at the bottom of the final pages. On the back cover of Mosque Notes, the user will find these words: Write. Reflect. Preserve. These three words help to sum up the purpose of Mosque Notes.
Nadine Muhammad: What are the benefits that readers will obtain from using your notebook, and how will their lives be transformed?
Kadara Muhammad: I believe our Beloved Note-takers will obtain practical and spiritual benefits from using Mosque Notes. First, the general act of writing notes will help the user to grasp and retain the information being transcribed. I remember reading in Brother Student Minister Demetric’s Ramadan Qur’anic Reading Journal & Historical Digest in the section titled The Power of Taking Notes where it states that “the act of taking written notes enhances comprehension.” It encourages the note-taker to focus on “what is most relevant and transforming” to their personal growth (Kiewra, 1989; Peverly et al., 2007). Additionally, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan further shared, “the more I wrote the more exact my language became.” (Ramadan Journal 2025 pg. xxi) This bears witness to how writing refines our ability to communicate. Consequently, users of Mosque Notes will find their thoughts to be more organized, their expressions more precise, and a more deeply rooted connection to Allah’s Divine Wisdom.
Lastly, Mosque Notes is intentionally designed as a sacred space where reflections on the word of Allah (God) can be recorded, preserved, and revisited. By reflecting on and recording Allah’s Wisdom, users are more likely to internalize it and allow it to guide their daily lives. Thus, becoming more than a notebook… We pray it becomes an integral part in every user’s personal and spiritual relationship with Allah.
Thank you for allowing me to share these few words. As Salaam Alaikum.
