Reading Time: 10 Minutes
I was blessed with an opportunity to interview the author of The Black Boy Workbook by Kysha Muhammad. She shared with me the very inspiring story behind designing her workbook. Kysha discusses with me how her workbook helps our boys enhance their skills in reading, writing, math, and entrepreneurship while also building and maintaining their confidence and self-love.
Nadine Muhammad: Please, would you tell our readers about yourself?
Kysha Muhammad: As-Salaam-Alaikum. My name is Kysha Muhammad, and I am a writer and fashion designer who loves storytelling. I am a truth seeker, and I am passionate about sharing that truth with others. I pray that one day I can be among the good helpers of The Hon. Min. Louis Farrakhan in spreading truth and helping to liberate our people.
Nadine Muhammad: What is your motivation for creating the Black Boys Workbook?
Kysha Muhammad: My initial motivation came from wanting to create a workbook for my son—something that would help him focus on writing, reading, math, and entrepreneurship. I grew tired of teaching from multiple workbooks and wanted a resource we could consistently use without having to create lesson plans the week of or even the morning of. More than that, I wanted him to have a tool where he could see himself represented, to maintain the self-love instilled in him, and to preserve the foundation we have built for him.
Nadine Muhammad: Would you tell us the details of what your workbook is about?
Kysha Muhammad: The Black Boys Workbook is designed to help our boys enhance their skills in reading, writing, math, and entrepreneurship while also building and maintaining their confidence and self-love. It’s built for consistency—every lesson is already laid out, so there’s no need to figure out what comes next. Everything you need is right there.
Nadine Muhammad: What are the benefits that children will gain from using your workbook, and how will their lives be transformed?
Kysha Muhammad: When children use this workbook consistently, week after week, parents will see measurable progress in all of the skill areas I’ve mentioned. It breaks my heart to see our boys and men struggle with reading and writing. We must stop failing them and start giving them the focused attention they need so they can gain the tools to succeed in this world—and ultimately become the shoulders for us to stand on. But it all begins at home, in those hours of attentiveness to our young boys, making sure they are developing the skills and confidence they need to thrive.
