I am grateful to God to feature an international perspective on mental health in this author spotlight, featuring London-based poet and author Holly Glanfield. In our recent interview, we discussed her book, For the Love of God: A Tale of Woe, which provides a narrative on the journey from emotional distress toward joy and peace. Her work serves as a valuable resource for those seeking insight and comfort throughout the complex process of healing.

Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Please, would you tell our readers about yourself?

Holly Glanfield: My name's Holly and I'm a 36 year old poet and writer from London (UK).

Dr. Nadine Muhammad: What is your motivation for writing your book For the Love of God: A Tale of Woe?

Holly Glanfield: When in pain or inner turmoil writing poetry's always been a release, relief and therapy for me and a way to process what I'm going through. It's a way for me to connect to Allah (God) during that hardship and channel his guidance and light out of my difficulty, that's what this book is a result of.

Dr. Nadine Muhammad: Would you tell us the details of what your book is about?

Holly Glanfield: My book initially explores the chaos of depression and turbulence that falls under that umbrella such as self-deprecation, doubt and worthlessness along with the spiritual warfare we all experience within. As the collection progresses there's a development and transformation as a sense of overcoming, triumph and light occupy the themes of the poems.

Dr. Nadine Muhammad: What are the benefits readers will obtain from reading your book, and how will their lives be transformed?

Holly Glanfield: This book is a friend in the darkness for anyone who struggles with mental health, self-hatred and the pain of the human experience. Being emotionally acknowledged and knowing we aren't the only ones who struggle in this way is in and of itself a source of comfort. There's a conscious effort on my part to guide the reader through those dark mental states to a place of prevailing, strength, joy and peace and my hope is it'll be a source of inspiration, insight and comfort along the journey of healing.
