I had the honor of interviewing innovator and published author Ruqaiyah Johnson, owner of Divine Feminine Body Essentials. In her inspiring story, she discussed with me how all of the ingredients of her handmade products are picked with the thought of the customer in mind to enhance the quality of their skin and how she is very particular about what essential oils, carriers, and base oils that she uses for her body butters, skincare, and fragrances.
Nadine Muhammad: Please, would you tell our readers about yourself?
Ruqaiyah Johnson: I am an innovator, published author of 8 children's stories that you can find on Amazon, and an entrepreneur. I have been inspired by so many before me. My mother being one of them. As a child, we didn't have much money, but that never stopped the creativity in our household. She would create games from our pots and pans. My brothers and I would do talent shows, and one of my favorite memories is when she found some free tickets to take my brothers and me to a magic show. The magician bumped into me while I was taking a sip of water at the water fountain and asked me if I wanted to be in his magic show. I was 8 years old and became a disappearing act that turned me into a bunny rabbit. Not to be biased but I had the best magical trick that night. She opened my mind to reading at a very early age, which allowed me to travel sitting still.
Nadine Muhammad: Share with us the story behind the creation of your business, Divine Feminine Body Essentials: the inspiration for starting, history, mission, purpose.
Ruqaiyah Johnson: Well, I left my job back in July with absolutely no plan. Yep, that's me, Ms. Faithful to God, knowing that I wouldn't fail. Time in the hourglass was loading, so I pulled inspirations from what came naturally to me: creativity. I was once vegan back in 2014 for about 11 months. I learned during that time to make handmade plant-based products for my hair and skin. So, I decided to reinstate those ideas into a business. The purpose was to create organic plant based products so that they're less damaging for the skin. I will hope that my small business will become a well-known household name for everyone around the world to enjoy.
