Nadine Muhammad: You are welcome. I am so grateful for this opportunity to interview you about your children's book. I love the concept of your book and decided to list it in our online book store to offer to our readers.

Nadine Muhammad Please, would you tell our readers about yourself?

Sharifa Brown: Hi, I'm Sharifa. I am an author, poet, wife, and mother, as well as a dedicated speech-language pathologist. As a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusivity, I strive to enrich children's books by celebrating the depth and vibrancy of black culture and experience. As the founder and CEO of Imagine Write Now, LLC, a small independent publishing company, I am passionate about creating a wide range of diverse children’s books, coloring books, audiobooks, e-books, and journals. My mission is to inspire all children to pursue their dreams.

Nadine Muhammad: What is your motivation for writing your book, I'm A Little King: Positive Affirmations for Black and Brown Boys?

Sharifa Brown: My inspiration originates from the experience of being a young black mother raising my own little 4-year-old black king, Malik. As a mother, my deepest desire is for him to navigate the world feeling loved, valued, and empowered. This book is a reflection of that aspiration. This book was created to showcase the brilliance and potential of all young brown and black boys while challenging damaging stereotypes and cultivating optimism amidst the complexities of societal norms and harmful media portrayals.

Nadine Muhammad: Would you tell us what your book is about?

Sharifa Brown: I'm a Little King is a rhythmic and beautifully illustrated children’s book for ages 2-7 aimed at improving the self-esteem and self-confidence of black and brown boys. It focuses on changing the negative perceptions and narratives many have been conditioned to believe regarding black and brown children. Filled with inspiring, encouraging, empowering, and positive affirmations, this book will help little black and brown boys remain true to themselves while showcasing their greatness.

Nadine Muhammad: What are the benefits that readers will obtain from your book and how will their lives be transformed?

Sharifa Brown: My mission is to highlight the strength, brilliance, and sheer awesomeness inherent in young black boys. I'm a firm believer in the transformative power of positive representation. By instilling a sense of empowerment and greatness from an early age, we can equip children with the resilience to conquer any obstacle life throws their way. Through my work, I  hope to inspire greatness by fostering a generation of young, black, resilient, empowered leaders.

 Sharifa Brown: Thanks so much.
