Interview with Student Minister, Educator and Author, Willie Muhammad
In my interview with Student Minister Willie Muhammad of Mosque No. 46 in New Orleans, LA, he shared with me the story behind his Knowledge of Self Children's Workbook.
Nadine Muhammad: Please, would you tell our readers about yourself?
Student Minister Willie Muhammad: First, let me begin by thanking you for this GREAT opportunity. I am humbled, appreciative and excited! I would tell your readers that I am the Student Minister of Muhammad Mosque No. 46 in the city of New Orleans, LA. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan said once that the term minister also means servant. That’s how I strive to see myself and function as a servant. I am an educator, author, conflict resolution trainer, mediator and host of an interview show titled, “I Have a Testimony.” In the end, I am striving to do my part in this Mission of Resurrection.
Nadine Muhammad: What is your motivation for writing your book?
Student Minister Willie Muhammad: This particular children’s workbook stemmed from my desire to teach my daughters the Teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. I created worksheets that helped to facilitate their learning of this life-giving Teachings. I realized that combining all of these worksheets together in the form of a children’s workbook could help others in our Nation to do the same.
Nadine Muhammad: Would you tell us what your book is about?
Student Minister Willie Muhammad: The workbook has content in the form of concise and easy to read paragraphs, that focus on various topics covered in the Teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, such as the Self-Creation of God, the Value of the Woman, the Big Three (Master Fard Muhammad, the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan), Principles and Tenets of Islam, Black History and more. After each reading children, there are questions for the children to answer to check their understanding of what they read. Children can also color in this workbook as well.
Nadine Muhammad: What are the benefits that readers will obtain from your book and how will their lives be transformed?
Student Minister Willie Muhammad: One of the benefits of this workbook is the conversations that the material will inspire between the parents and children or the teachers and students. The material is written in a way that makes
the information easy to be grasp by our children. The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad said, “The acquiring of knowledge for our children and ourselves must not be limited to the three R’s ‘ -‘reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmetic. It should instead include the history of the Black Nation, the knowledge of civilization of man and the universe and all the sciences. It will make us a greater people of tomorrow.” I believe this children’s workbook helps to do so.
