History of Muhammad University of Islam
Muhammad University of Islam was established in 1934 by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in the city of Detroit, Michigan. The Muhammad Universities of Islam were born from the need to revive, reform, and redeem Black people who had suffered from the miseducation and hostility towards Blacks in the public school system (MUI Chicago, 2025). The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan began the laborious task of re-building the Nation of Islam in 1977 and re-established the University of Islam in 1989 on the foundation built by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad (MUI Chicago, 2025).

Work and Mission
True and proper education starts with the knowledge of God....God is the author of all knowledge and disciplines of study. To remove God from the curriculum removes life from the student. We desire to instill within our people the desire to learn and then use that learning for themselves. We must be obsessed with getting the type of education we may use toward the elevation and benefit of our people. We desire to provide education and knowledge that is a force or energy that makes its bearer accomplish or overcome obstacles, barriers, and resistance (MUI Chicago, 2025).
