Who Really Benefited From DEI? Is There a Better Option?

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a federal program that was signed into law under President Biden Administration. DEI was implemented to ensure fairness and equal opportunity in employment for women, minorities, and other marginalized groups in the U.S. of America. (Arsel et al., 2022). President Trump ended all DEI programs with an executive order in his first day in office on January 20, 2025. The motive for banning DEI programs, according to President Trump is to move to a merit-based and color-blind-based hiring criteria as opposed to affirmative action programs. (Engaging, et al., 2025).

There has been an alarming controversy over the executive order by the president banning DEI. Surprisingly, Blacks benefited the least out of the recipients of DEI. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the top recipients of DEI were White women, followed by Latinos and Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and members of the LGBTQ community, and lastly Blacks.

There is a more effective program for job creation and equity for the Black, Brown, and Native communities. Muhammad’s Economic Blueprint is an economic development plan first launched by the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, leader of the Nation of Islam in the 1960s. This comprehensive economic plan includes a fund that acts as a basis for its initiatives. (Muhammad, 1965). The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, national representative of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam re-established Muhammad’s Economic Blueprint in 2013. The plan calls for the development of farms, businesses, and institutions, along with international trade relationships. An enormous number of jobs will be created as a result of these initiatives. The Economic Blueprint Fund is generated by contributions made by members of the targeted communities. This plan is for each donor to give 5 cents a day with a minimum of 50 million. participants. That is 5 cents per day, 35 cents a week, and $18.20 per year times 50 million, which is a total of $910 million per year. There is an initial goal of purchasing 100 million acres of farmland.
